Draft — requires legal review
Community Photography and Media Consent Policy
How we take, use and store photographs and stories — with consent and dignity.
Draft — requires legal review
This policy is a working draft. It has not yet been reviewed by a qualified legal professional and may change. Publishing it does not mean the foundation is compliant with any law. Hindi translations of policies will follow after legal review.
Principles
- Dignity first: no images that show people as helpless or that exaggerate suffering.
- Informed consent: people must understand how an image or story will be used, and can say no without any effect on the support they receive.
- Guardian consent and the child's own agreement for any identifiable child.
Consent records
Consent will be recorded in writing (or recorded verbally where literacy is a barrier), stating where the image may be used and for how long. People can withdraw consent at any time, and we will stop future use.
What we will not publish
- Names, school names, addresses or other details that could identify a vulnerable person
- Images taken in private moments
- Images of people receiving essential supplies
AI-generated images
AI-generated images are always labelled as illustrative. They are never presented as photographs of real beneficiaries or real activities.
Storage
Original images and consent records are stored securely, with restricted access, and deleted when consent ends or is withdrawn.
